Am I living fully?

I was strolling through Home Goods when I spotted this super cute mirror with a clearance tag on it.

This exciting idea came to me… maybe I could use it to write daily messages to myself?

These are not affirmations.

I don’t believe you can look into the mirror like Stuart Smalley from Saturday Night Live and suddenly think you’re awesome.

Anyone remember that Daily Affirmation skit?

“I’m good enough, I’m smart enough and doggone it, people like me.”

I still get a kick out of it.

Unfortunately, our brains don’t work that way.

In fact, it takes 63 days (at minimum) to build a new belief about yourself (according to research by the neuroscientist @drcarolineleaf).

Building new thoughts and beliefs takes practice and it is worth exploring… but that is a post for another day.

My aim with the mirror was to write messages to remind myself of the things I want to embody.

Something I’ve been thinking about a lot lately is whether or not I'm living a full life.

So I wrote “Am I living fully?” on the mirror without any thought about how it would hang on the wall.

Turns out it’s messy and crooked.

I almost redid it.

And then I thought, “Nah, if you’re living a full life, it’s bound to be messy and crooked.”

There will be twists and turns.

Messes and successes.

That is all part of the journey.

I’m curious… has the messy road led to a fuller life for you? I’d love to hear from you in the comments.
